THE NO-NONSENSE GUIDE · FIRE LOG BOOK
Training and drills
Practical companion guidance for training and drills.
Written companion guide · Reviewed 14 October 2026
Make the instruction relevant
Use the current emergency plan, systems and roles for the actual premises. Identify who needs instruction, deputy cover and any additional specialist training.
Record what happened
Use the training and drill records to note the actual date, scope, people or attendance reference, observations and follow-up actions. Keep sensitive personal details in controlled records.
Learn from the exercise
Identify problems in warning, evacuation arrangements, communication or role cover. Assign actions and retain evidence of their completion. A signature list alone does not show that every necessary skill was demonstrated.
Use with your premises procedure
This guide supports the printed record. It does not replace the fire risk assessment, system instructions, required specialist records or competent assessment. Work within your training and authority.
